Mom & Dad,
Today I am not doing so good. I have good and bad days. The holidays have been so hard without you both here. Especially Christmas.
Mom-things have never really been the same since we lost you in 2006. My divorce was final in May then I lost you in July. I lost 2 people I loved very much.
Dad-you have only been gone since October 23. I find comfort knowing you are finally together with Mom, but it's still so hard.
None of my friends have lost a parent, let alone, both of them. I am only 39, but somedays, I feel like a little kid. No one relates or understands the pain I feel. It's almost as though everyone thinks someone should be strong because it's expected to lose your parent(s) at some point.
Trying to get ready for Christmas is breaking my heart. Every ornament, decoration, etc..is a reminder of both of you.
The hardest thing is trying to get myself back on track. Things don't look, taste, feel, etc...the same anymore. I have to redirect myself, and I simply don't know where to begin. It's seems so odd to me, and I almost get upset with myself, because I am so lost.

Hi FuffyFluffy:
It makes me sad to know you are having a rough day. Your friends may not know what it is like to lose a parent, but trust me, there are millions of people all over the world who share your thoughts. You are indeed not alone!
The Holidays are especially hard to deal with. It reminds us of what:
-could have been
-should have been
-or just how things use to be
As you decorate your tree, try this idea:
Take a picture or a photocopy of a picture of your parents, and make it into a tree ornaent. Their picture will help to make you feel better and bring them into the joy of Christmas.
It may sound silly, but every night after I take my dogs out before heading to bed, I always look up and say good night to my parents. Tonight, I will think of you and your parents. I will say a special good night to your “Jo & Chuck.” I have do doubt that they are watching down, and watching over you.
I hope you find some joy this Holiday Season. It is not easy, but please know that people are here to help give you support - especially at this time of year.
